A hybrid is driven by a gasoline engine and electric motor. The Volt gets more power from the electric motor than a Prius would, and in my opinion is a great leap towards electrifying transportation.

I'm guessing that may be the average if you combine both the range of the fuel tank, and the 40 miles it can travel on a full charge without using fuel at all. Still pretty impressive.

its perfectly reasonable because the car is driven by ELECTRICITY most people dont understand this. it is driven by electricity and a small internal combustion engine provides back up power when needed. As opposed to a hybrid engine, which is driven by a internal combustion engine but using a battery for back-up. So i believe that number is probably in the ballpark.
