I'd rather get the Tesla Model-S electric sedan.

The Model-S is a much more roomier car than the Volt, and it costs $49,900, and it's eligible for the $7000 Federal tax credit for EV cars too.

And Tesla is already starting up production on the Model-S, and you can already place an order for one. As usual, GM is late to the game, again.

I think the 230 mpg is a conservative estimate. Seriously, if you only drive 40 miles or less a day, you could practically eliminate gas consumption for your car. That tank of gas that's used after you finish your 40 miles could sit in there for years.

At the current price I had rather buy the Hyundai elantra.
The Coda and the Chevy Volt are priced beyond what most people are willing to pay but I think both cars will have a future if they go into mass production and the price becomes reasonable.
If you only used your Volt for 40 mile trips over time the gas would lose enough hydrogen to effect your mileage. Ballard builds fuel cells that take advantage of hydrogen’s ability to leak through membranes and yes it also leaks through metal.

Great promising car but will it propel GM to profitability? Highly doubt it. The car is expensive to produce and GM admitted that even at $40K per car they'll be loosing money. It is too early to say whether the car will be a hit or not. If gas prices stay around $2.50 - $3.00 per gallon, Volt will be a slow seller. Since the government now owns 61% of GM, I can see how it would be in their benefit to artificially increase gas prices (gas tax hike?) in order to drive consumers to buy these Volts. We'll just have to see.
